Help for homes & storage areas
Silverfish Control Brisbane Look after the things you keep.
Silverfish in the wardrobe? Marks on books or papers you have stored away? Debugged Pest Control checks the activity and hiding places, then explains the treatment and storage changes that can help protect your belongings.

Identify the activity
A quick glimpse can be useful. So can a pattern.
Tell us which rooms are affected, how often insects appear and whether you have noticed fresh damage. You do not need to identify the exact species before getting in touch.
A tapered body and three tail bristles
Silverfish are wingless insects with long antennae and three bristles at the rear. They often have a scaled, silvery appearance and move quickly. A clear photograph can help distinguish them from other small insects.
Repeated sightings near stored items
Mention activity in drawers, cupboards, bookshelves and floor edges, not just the insect you found in the bathroom. A single sighting does not tell us how widespread the problem is.
Grazed paper or damaged surfaces
Silverfish can scrape paper and feed on starchy materials such as bookbinding paste. Damage alone does not identify the culprit: other insects and storage conditions can affect belongings too. Show us the item and where it was stored.
Identification: Australian Museum silverfish guide. Feeding damage: UC IPM silverfish information.
Holes in clothes need a closer look.
Do not assume silverfish caused every damaged garment. Keep an example or photo and tell us about any insects, larvae or shed skins you have found. Identifying the cause helps avoid treating for the wrong pest.
Look beyond the room where you saw one
Hidden spaces are part of the inspection.
Your description helps us decide where to look. We discuss access and the areas that can be inspected without damaging furniture or building materials.
Shelves and long-term storage
Paper, cardboard and undisturbed storage can provide food and shelter. Tell us about stored documents, boxes and books, particularly where sightings repeat. Check items before moving them into another room.
Drawers and cupboard edges
Show us the affected cupboard and any belongings with marks or holes. We can discuss what needs to be moved for access and what should be protected before treatment. There is no need to empty every wardrobe without instructions.
Moisture and building gaps
Bathrooms, laundries and accessible ceiling or wall-edge areas may be relevant. Mention leaks or persistent condensation. Moisture can support some silverfish, but a sighting alone does not establish a leak or poor housekeeping.
Your silverfish treatment
Check the activity and agree on the service
Silverfish are included in our general pest service. Tell us about the affected areas so we can confirm the treatment coverage, access and preparation for your property.
Discuss sightings and inspect
Show us the rooms and storage areas involved, along with any damaged items. Tell us about earlier sprays or pest services. We inspect accessible locations and explain any areas that cannot be assessed safely.
Confirm the scope and price
We explain the proposed treatment areas and how to prepare. Let us know about children, pets, aquariums and valuable or sensitive belongings. The quote confirms what is included before work starts.
Treat suitable hiding places
Depending on the assessment, treatment may target appropriate cracks, crevices or accessible voids using a product registered for the purpose. Product and placement follow the label and surface conditions. Books, clothing and documents are not automatically treatment surfaces.
Provide the report and aftercare
Your digital report records the service and recommendations. We explain what to leave undisturbed, how to monitor sightings and when to contact us. Any proposed follow-up or warranty cover is confirmed for your booking.
Books, documents and keepsakes
Protect the item as well as treating the room.
Tell us about irreplaceable belongings before the visit so preparation can be planned around them.
Keep affected items separate for assessment
Avoid mixing suspect books or boxes into unaffected storage. Photograph the damage and note where the item was found. Ask about suitable containment rather than spraying paper or putting a valuable object through a home treatment.
Use appropriate storage
Keep stored materials dry and inspect them periodically. Reduce unnecessary cardboard and loose paper where practical. Choose storage suitable for the item; valuable photographs, artwork and historic papers may need conservation advice.
Get specialist advice for valuable paper
Pest treatment does not repair damage to a book or artwork. Improvised heat, freezing, cleaning or insecticide applications can damage sensitive objects. A conservator can advise on the object itself while the property service addresses the surrounding activity.

Make the visit easier
Before treatment and afterwards
Follow the instructions supplied for your booking. We will discuss what needs moving and when treated areas can be used again.
Before we arrive
- Note where and when silverfish appear; keep useful photos.
- Make the agreed cupboard or floor-edge areas accessible.
- Tell us about valuable papers, delicate fabrics and other sensitive items.
- Discuss pets, aquariums and arrangements for people during treatment.
- Mention any sprays already used and any cleaning or repairs planned.
After the service
- Follow the stated re-entry and drying instructions.
- Check before washing or vacuuming treated edges and void openings.
- Act on moisture, storage and maintenance recommendations.
- Keep a dated note of new sightings and fresh damage.
- Contact us if activity persists beyond the period discussed.
Fewer sightings are useful information. So are continuing ones.
Let us know whether activity has reduced and which locations remain affected. We can review the report and advise on the next step. Treatment response varies; a fixed eradication deadline or automatic free return is not assumed.
Between services
Make storage less inviting
Small maintenance changes support treatment and make it easier to spot new activity.
Address persistent dampness
Arrange repairs for known leaks and improve ventilation where needed. Tell us about condensation or damp cupboards so these conditions can be considered. Pest treatment does not repair the source of a moisture problem.
Reduce food and hiding places
Remove dust and debris from accessible, untreated storage areas. Keep dry foods in suitable closed containers and reduce stacks of unused paper. Ask how to coordinate cleaning around treated locations.
Check items coming into storage
Inspect boxes and stored belongings before putting them away. Keep access to shelf and cupboard edges where practical. If a room is rarely used, add it to your routine checks rather than waiting for visible damage.

Common questions
Silverfish treatment, explained.
Practical answers about the service and your belongings.
Ask about your silverfish problem →Is silverfish treatment included in general pest control?
Yes. Our general pest service includes silverfish. Tell us about the activity when booking so we can confirm the affected areas, access and preparation. The advertised starting price is subject to the property and agreed scope.
Does finding silverfish mean my home is dirty?
No. A sighting does not establish poor hygiene. Shelter, available materials and environmental conditions can all be relevant. The inspection focuses on the locations involved and practical improvements.
Will you spray my books or clothes?
Not as a routine part of the service. Tell us about affected items before the visit. Treatment must be appropriate to the surface and product label; valuable papers or fabrics may need separate specialist care.
Do I need to empty every cupboard?
Not automatically. We confirm which areas need access and what should be moved or protected. Tell us if furniture is heavy or storage is difficult to reach so preparation can be discussed.
Can silverfish come from ceiling spaces?
Ceiling spaces and other hidden areas may be relevant to activity. Tell us about sightings and available roof-hatch access. We only inspect or treat where access and conditions allow, and explain any limitations.
How long does treatment take to work?
The response depends on the activity, accessible hiding places and conditions. We explain what to monitor and when to contact us. Persistent sightings should be reviewed rather than met with repeated household spraying.
Is the treatment suitable around children and pets?
Tell us about your household before booking. Product choice, placement, preparation and re-entry instructions are discussed for the service. Follow those directions instead of assuming any pesticide is harmless.
Is a follow-up or warranty included?
Any warranty period, conditions and included follow-up are confirmed for the service you book. If activity continues, contact us with the treatment date and affected locations so we can review the situation.
