When to get advice
Birds returning to the same spot every day?
A bird passing through the garden is different from birds nesting in a roof space or regularly fouling a doorway. Tell us where the activity is concentrated and how it is affecting the property.
Droppings keep building up
If you keep finding droppings below a ledge, sign or balcony, note the perch above it. Cleaning the surface is only part of the job if birds still have somewhere to settle.
Repeated visits to a roof gap
Birds carrying material into an opening or regularly entering an eave are worth investigating. Watch from ground level and leave the opening alone until the occupants and any nesting activity have been assessed.
Birds around stock or entrances
Let us know if birds are affecting loading areas, outdoor dining, customer walkways or stored goods. The location helps us plan access and identify which parts of the site need attention first.
A few details make the first conversation easier
Send your suburb, building type, where the birds gather and roughly how high the area is. Photos taken from a safe position can help us understand the layout. Mention nests, young birds and any existing netting or spikes.
Bird proofing & deterrents
The right system depends on where birds are landing.
A narrow window ledge needs a different approach from a covered loading bay. We discuss the bird species, surface, access and maintenance needs before recommending a system.
Bird netting
Netting can prevent access to a defined area, such as a sheltered section of a building. It needs suitable fixings, properly finished edges and a plan for maintenance access. Loose or damaged netting can leave gaps and put birds at risk of entanglement.
Bird spikes and wire systems
These systems make selected surfaces harder to land or roost on. Coverage and positioning matter: an untreated section beside the installation may still offer a perch. We assess the whole affected ledge before discussing a suitable option.
Mesh and access-point exclusion
Suitable screening can close off access to an opening once the area is ready to be sealed. Birds, nests and young must be checked first. The proposed work also needs to account for ventilation, drainage and access to building services.
Bird slopes and other deterrents
A sloping cover changes a flat perch into a less usable surface. Other deterrents may form part of a wider plan. We explain which part of the problem each measure addresses, rather than assuming one product will protect the whole building.

Your bird control service
What happens from enquiry to installation
Bird control starts with the building and the birds using it. We agree on the affected areas, the proposed work and the access arrangements before starting.
Look at the activity and the building
We discuss where birds are landing, entering or nesting, what you have already tried and how long the problem has been happening. The assessment considers the species, affected surfaces and any existing bird-proofing.
Check access and any restrictions
Height, roof access, nearby services and pedestrian areas can change how the work is carried out. Nesting birds or protected species may also affect the timing and permissions needed. These points are addressed before the job is agreed.
Agree on the system and carry out the work
Your quote sets out the proposed deterrence or exclusion work and the areas it covers. We discuss the installation arrangements with you, including access for staff, residents or other trades while work is underway.
Explain what to check afterwards
We go through the completed scope, maintenance needs and any follow-up arrangements. Let us know if birds return to the protected area or you notice damaged fixings, gaps or nesting material around the system.
Know which bird you are dealing with
Identification comes before control.
Different birds use buildings in different ways. A clear description or photograph can help, but a common name alone is not enough to decide what work is appropriate.
Feral pigeons
Also called rock doves, feral pigeons are closely associated with towns and cities. Building ledges and accessible roof spaces can provide nesting sites. Report the regular perch as well as the area being fouled below.
Common or Indian mynas
These introduced birds may nest in roofs and compete for nesting spaces. They are often confused with noisy miners, which are native birds. The distinction matters when planning management.
House sparrows
House sparrows are introduced birds that live around people. They can nest in roof voids and wall crevices. Small openings may therefore need attention even where larger birds cannot enter.

Cleaning & ongoing care
Deal with the mess and the reason it keeps returning.
Removing droppings does not stop birds returning to an accessible roost. Likewise, a new deterrent does not clean the surfaces underneath it. Confirm both parts of the job when arranging your quote.
Before work starts
- Keep the affected area accessible and tell us about locked gates or restricted entry.
- Let us know about nests, young birds or animals already caught in damaged netting.
- Arrange any landlord or body corporate consent needed for the proposed installation.
- Discuss how residents, customers and staff will be kept clear of the work area.
- Confirm whether cleaning, waste removal or building repairs are included or need a separate arrangement.
After bird proofing
- Follow the inspection and maintenance advice for the installed system.
- Report loose netting, damaged fixings or new access gaps without climbing up to repair them yourself.
- Tell other contractors about the bird-proofing before roof, sign or building maintenance.
- Keep food waste in closed bins and avoid leaving pet food where birds can reach it.
- Contact us if birds enter the protected area or start nesting around the installation.
Heavy droppings need a planned clean-up.
WorkSafe Queensland distinguishes the low risk from small amounts of fresh droppings from the greater risk of disturbing large, dried accumulations. Avoid dry sweeping, pressure washing or using a household vacuum on accumulated droppings, as these can spread dust or aerosols. Seek advice about suitable cleaning and access controls.
Homes & apartment buildings
Start with the part of the property that is affected.
Tell us whether birds are using a balcony, roof edge, eave or shared building area. For apartments and managed properties, include the property manager’s access requirements and any restrictions on visible fittings.
If the issue is close to solar panels or rooftop equipment, mention that when enquiring so access and the limits of the proposed work can be discussed.
Commercial bird control
Plan the work around your building’s use.
For warehouses, shops, hospitality premises and other workplaces, let us know about operating hours, loading movements and areas used by the public. The quote can then address the affected surfaces and the practical arrangements for the work.
A site plan or marked-up photographs are useful when several parts of a building are affected.

Bird control, explained.
Not sure which system you need? Start with the location and the problem. We can discuss the options from there.
Ask about your property →Will bird spikes solve a pigeon problem?
They may suit some landing surfaces, but they do not close roof openings or protect an entire covered area. The shape of the surface and nearby alternative perches matter. We assess whether spikes, wire, netting or another option fits the location.
Is bird netting humane?
Exclusion netting is intended to keep birds out of an area, not catch them. Correct installation and regular inspection matter: damaged or loose netting can allow entry or entanglement. Birds must not be sealed inside. Report any trapped animal promptly so safe assistance can be arranged.
Can you remove birds or nests from my roof?
Describe the activity before anyone blocks an opening or moves a nest. The bird species, presence of eggs or young, access and any required approvals determine what can be done and when. Nest removal is not automatically included in a bird-proofing quote.
Does bird control include cleaning the droppings?
Only if cleaning is included in the agreed scope. Tell us about the amount and location of the mess when requesting a quote. Deterrent installation, cleaning, waste removal and repairs should be clearly identified so you know what is covered.
How long does bird-proofing last?
There is no single lifespan for every system. Materials, exposure, fixings and maintenance all affect performance. Ask about the recommended inspection schedule and any warranty for the proposed installation. Report damage early, particularly after building work affects the protected area.
Why do birds keep coming back after I clean?
The same place may still offer shelter, a perch or access to food. Cleaning removes the mess; proofing and changes to food access address the conditions that keep attracting birds. The plan should consider both.
Can you work on high or hard-to-reach areas?
Include the approximate height and any available access details in your enquiry. The work needs an assessment of the equipment, access and site controls required. We confirm what can be undertaken and how it affects the quote.
Is bird management covered by a general pest treatment?
No. Bird deterrence and exclusion are quoted separately because the materials and installation depend on the building. If you also need insect or rodent control, mention that when enquiring so the services can be discussed together.
