Fire ant
treatment.
Suspect a fire ant nest on your property? Speak with Debugged about targeted treatment for your home or business in South-East Queensland.

Suspect fire ants? Report them within 24 hours.
Keep people and pets away from the nest. Notify the National Fire Ant Eradication Program, even if you also contact a pest manager. An enquiry with Debugged does not replace an official report.
Know what to look for
Signs of fire ants on your property.
Look for these clues from a safe distance. Appearance alone does not confirm identification, and some nests can remain hidden below the surface.
Different-sized workers
Fire ant workers vary in size within the same nest. Look for a mix of small and larger ants, rather than ants that are all the same size.
Copper brown, darker tail
The body is copper brown with a darker abdomen. Other ants may look similar, so report a suspicion instead of trying to confirm it by disturbing the nest.
Loose soil, no obvious entry
Nests can form a mound or a flat patch of loose soil, without a clear entrance hole. Check from a safe distance around lawns, gardens and disturbed soil.

Your next steps
Found a suspected nest?
Keep clear
Keep children and pets away. Do not touch, dig into or mow over a suspected nest. Take a photo only if you can do so without disturbing the ants.
Make a report
Report the location online or call 13 22 68 within 24 hours. Follow the Program’s instructions for your property.
Be careful with soil and plants
Fire ants can travel in soil, turf, mulch and potted plants. Check the Program’s movement advice before moving these materials.
Treatment & pricing
Fire ant treatment with Debugged.
Every property needs an appropriate approach. Tell us where you have seen activity, the area affected and whether you have reported it. We will discuss whether private treatment is suitable for your address.
Targeted fire ant baiting
Worker ants collect specially formulated bait and carry it back to the colony. Baiting takes time, and repeat applications may be needed. Product choice, weather and correct application all affect results.
Direct nest treatment
In suitable situations, direct nest injection applies an approved insecticide into an identified nest and its tunnels. It may be appropriate where a nest presents an immediate risk. The method and aftercare must be assessed before treatment.
Monitoring and follow-up
Treating a visible nest does not establish that the whole property is free of fire ants. Hidden colonies or new activity may need further attention. We will explain the treatment scope and any recommended follow-up.

Protect your outdoor spaces
Why early action matters.
Gardening, backyard barbecues, children playing on the lawn and pets enjoying the yard are part of Queensland life. Fire ants can make these everyday activities unsafe.
When disturbed, they can swarm and sting repeatedly. They also threaten wildlife and agriculture. Reporting suspected nests and following suitable treatment advice helps protect your property and supports the wider eradication effort.
A few useful answers
Common questions
Do I still need to report them if I hire a pest manager?
Yes. Report suspected fire ants to the National Fire Ant Eradication Program within 24 hours. Contacting Debugged does not submit that report for you. You can report online or call 13 22 68.
Can I book fire ants as a general pest treatment?
Please contact us for a fire ant enquiry instead. General pest prices and household ant treatments do not cover fire ant management. We will discuss your property and confirm the scope and cost separately.
How much will treatment cost?
There is no single price for every property. The area affected, activity, access and treatment plan all matter. Ask us for a quote and we will explain the proposed work, including any recommended follow-up, before you agree.
What if I am not sure they are fire ants?
Keep clear and report your suspicion. The Program can advise on identification. Do not disturb a nest or handle ants to check them; include a photograph only when it is safe to take one.
Will the government treat my property?
Treatment arrangements vary by address and can change. Check the Program’s current advice for residents to see what applies to your property. Eligible residents in some suburbs may be able to access free self-treatment products. Private treatment does not replace scheduled government eradication activities.
